Vandals target war memorial
POLICE are appealing for information after a First World War memorial has been left smashed.
Officers received reports that a war memorial at Celynen Collieries Institute and Memorial Hall in Newbridge had been damaged. The glass which protects a framed roll of honour, which is on display in the building, has been left smashed.
The building, now called Newbridge Memo, is a Grade II and Grade II* listed building in Newbridge, near Blackwood, Caerphilly.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We’re appealing for information following reports of criminal damage at the war memorial at Celynen Colliers Institute and Memorial Hall.
“The damage is believed to have taken place between 10.15pm and 10.25pm on Friday, December 1, 2017.”
