EU is not to blame for UK’s problems

-

WHEN we are told that Corbyn had to accept the will of the people at the time of the referendum, surely democracy means we must allow people to change their minds, as even Nigel Farage now admits, after spending 25 years complaining about the result of the previous referendum.

Leave voters believed they were voting for an extra £350m a week for the NHS and to cut immigration, when non-EU immigration exceeds that from the EU and our privatised border controls are totally inadequate to prevent illegal immigration. Our privatised prisons and probation service are not working either, nor is privatised NHS England, or privatised social care, or “free” schools, or our privatised railways. The blame rests firmly on the shoulders of the Prime Minister and her inadequate ministers, not on the EU. If Corbyn thinks that a vote on the final Brexit deal is an adequate response to this shambles, he needs to realise that rejecting a deal risks crashing out of the EU without a deal, which will be a hammer blow to our trade, our industry and our public services. We need speedier action. Margaret Phelps Penarth
