A raft of changes on the horizon
THERE are lots of changes to keep a watchful eye on looking ahead, writes public affairs consultancy Deryn.
The new Cabinet has taken shape with an independent addition, and a new AM will be joining the Senedd next month following the Alyn and Deeside by-election.
There are a number of new pieces of legislation coming forward this year, and potentially new taxes also. We are expecting changes relating to recycling plastics and landfill, accountability in private care settings, land transaction tax rates, minimum alcohol pricing, social landlord rules and the abolition of the right to buy.
First Minister Carwyn Jones has announced that the EU Transition Fund will be supported by an additional £50m. The fund will be developed in partnership with Welsh businesses, public services and other key organisations to provide a combination of financial support and loan funding as the UK prepares to leave the EU. The £50m EU Transition Fund is supported by an initial £10m down payment in the 2018-19 final budget.
Next week there will be a debate on the Welsh Government’s final budget for 2018-19, and AMs will have an opportunity to debate next year’s local government settlement.
Newly appointed Welsh Government director-general Andrew Slade will appear before the Public Accounts Committee for the first time since taking up the post and Labour AM Lee Waters will lead a debate on automation.
