Sunderland striker on move

-

CHRIS Coleman’s Sunderland last night lost the services of striker James Vaughan, who moved to League One leaders Wigan for a fee in the region of

Vaughan, 29, signed an 18-month contract at the DW Stadium, and manager Paul Cook said: “James brings added experience and firepower to our group and I am excited to work with him.

“This time last year, James was amongst the leading goal-scorers in this division (with Bury) and I think it speaks volumes of the club that we have been able to bring him here.”

I am delighted,” Vaughan said. “It’s a great club that is high in the league and I am hoping I can help out in the promotion push.

“I want to help the team and, first and foremost as a striker, that means goals, but I’ll work as hard as I can and hopefully that contributes to getting three points.

“The manager has been really positive; he has told me to do what I have been doing, work hard and everything else will take care of itself.

“I want to try as hard as I can, put myself about and try and get on the end of things and get a few goals hopefully that’s enough.

“As a striker, you want your team to create chances and you have seen this season how many goals have been scored by the team.

“I just want to get going as quickly as possible; the team is doing fantastic and I just hope I can add to that.”
