Care home residents can enjoy pint at pop-up pub

-

A POP-UP pub has been created at a care home where its 60 residents can enjoy a pint or two.

Pendine Park, in Wrexham, wanted to create a pub atmosphere where its residents could have a good time.

The bar, called the Pendine Arms, has its own unique brews called Pobli Bobli and Pobli Wobli which have been created for the care home by Denbigh micro-brewery Bragdy Dinbych.

As well as having a drink, the residents can play dominoes, cards, bingo or even enjoy a pub quiz or some dancing.

They can even get dressed up before going for a drink by going to the popup hair and beauty salon.

Pendine Park proprietor Mario Kreft said: “We want to give residents the opportunity to enjoy a drink or two in moderation. The pop -up pub is ideal for residents who can’t get out.

“It helps brings some residents to recall memories of visiting pubs in their younger days and we find many residents gain a great deal from the experience.”

Welsh Government AM Lesley Griffiths who sampled the beer said: “What a wonderful idea for staff and residents to have their own beer.”

There is now a third brew in the pipeline in the form of a new craft lager called Pobli Crefft.

Care home activities co-ordinator Christine Lewis said: “It’s about jogging memories and allowing people the chance to have some quality time with their families and other residents.

“And it certainly seems to work.”
