Hero helped M4 car crash woman

-

A HERO who ran across three lanes of the M4 to rescue a woman after her car spun in severe weather has said he “just did what anyone would have done.”

Kurtis Bissett slammed on the brakes when he saw the stricken white BMW facing the central reservation near junction 47 at Penllergear, Swansea, on Sunday morning.

The female driver was still in the BMW when Mr Bissett pulled on to the hard shoulder and made a run for it to reach her.

Mr Bissett, aged 27, of Hafod, Swansea, had been driving his partner Gary de Banks and sister Gemma to a wedding fair at Ffos Las racecourse in Carmarthenshire.

He said: “It all happened so fast really.

“It was just after 10.30am and the weather and road conditions were atrocious, really bad.”

“I saw this car ahead and thought ‘something’s not right here’ the car was facing the barrier and there was debris everywhere.

“I said to my partner and sister that we had to pull over because the accident had just happened.”

“There was only one car involved, and she had opened the car door by the time I got there.

“I asked if she was ok and told her to come with me to our car and wait for the ambulance.”

“She was upset and shaken up, but otherwise ok thankfully.”

Speaking about his actions, Kurtis, who runs Slimming World sessions in Swansea, said: “I did what anyone would have done.

“To be honest, it all happened so fast I didn’t have time to be in shock or really think, I just got on with it.”
