Father who raped student ‘the stuff of nightmares’

AFATHER who raped a foreign student as she walked home has been described as “the stuff of nightmares”.

Antony Guy was walking towards the subway under Boulevard de Nantes in Cardiff when he saw the woman crossing The Kingsway.

He changed direction and followed her before raping and sexually assaulting her.

Guy, 38, was jailed for 12 years at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday after being found guilty by a jury.

The court heard the woman had injuries to her knees and back but managed to walk home where she immediatel­y told others about the attack.

“It is because of her courage the CPS were able to bring the defendant to justice.”

Speaking before Guy was sentenced, prosection barrister Caroline Rees read out a part of the victims personal statement to the court.

Speaking on the behalf of the victim, she said: “I have been betrayed by a fellow human being.”

She described how it had made her “not want to meet new people” and how that “was unlike me”.

In what the prosection described as “grave impact on her day to day life” she explained how she was uncomforta­ble in crowds and had find herself crying in her room.
