Carvalhal waiting on Andre’s fitness at Foxes

-

SWANSEA City are waiting on the fitness of record signing Andre Ayew as Carlos Carvalhal hopes to give the Ghanaian his second debut for the club at Leicester.

The 28-year-old has returned for a second spell at the Liberty Stadium, sealing an £18 million move from West Ham during the final hours of the January transfer window.

Ayew, who links up with brother Jordan in SA1, has not played since featuring for the Hammers in their FA Cup third-round replay win over Shrewsbury in mid-January because of a hamstring injury.

He was not able to play a part in training on Thursday as he had the injury assessed by Swansea’s medical staff, but Carvalhal is hopeful the former Marseille forward will be fit enough to be involved in some capacity at the King Power Stadium. “We did a scan, I talked with the doctor about him and he is optimistic,” said Carvalhal.

“He is working with the physios and, if everything is okay, he will make a decision if he trains with the team or not (for this game).

“He’s a player that can play in different positions in our system, he’s very versatile. He can play on the right, on the left, or in the centre.

“Jordan is the same. He adds quality to the team and like Jordan, he doesn’t lose the ball very easily and links the midfield and attack. He’s another face to help us link the team.”

Ayew’s fellow new arrival Andy King will not be available to face his parent club under the terms of his loan agreement. Renato Sanches will miss out, while Tom Carroll is looking to shake off a minor niggle.
