Jennings warns Dragons on trip to face strugglers

-

WREXHAM are back on the road this afternoon as they continue their promotion push at National League strugglers Guiseley.

The Dragons missed the chance to move to within a point of leaders Macclesfield after being held to a goalless draw at Gateshead on Tuesday night, although it was their 17th defensive shutout in 31 league matches.

It also extended their unbeaten run to seven league matches ahead of today’s trip to Nethermoor Park to face a Guiseley deep in mire and currently nine points from safety.

And, with Macclesfield and secondplaced Aldershot not in league action, victory today would take Wrexham top on goal difference.

Dean Keates’ men, though, will be fully aware of Guiseley’s ability to frustrate having left the Racecourse with a point back in September when only a Sam Wedgbury leveller seven minutes into added time saved Wrexham from defeat. NETHERMORE PARK GUISELEY v WREXHAM 3pm

“It’s massive for us,” said Wrexham defender James Jennings.

“They’re down there in the bottom four and when you go to places where teams are scrapping for their lives they’re always difficult games.

“Paul Cox’s sides are always difficult to play against, as we saw at home earlier in the season.”

Keates could hand a debut to midfielder Nicky Deverdics, who arrived this week from Hartlepool United, although they will need to check on the fitness of on-loan striker Scott Quigley after he was forced off at Gateshead.

Reflecting on the midweek draw Jennings had mixed feelings, saying: “I think we’ve set such high standards that we’re probably a little bit disappointed that we didn’t go on and nick the three points.”
