Wales let eleven go to play at weekend

-

ELEVEN Wales Six Nations squad members will be heading back to their regions and clubs this week.

Warren Gatland has chosen to release nine players to the Welsh regions, including five to Cardiff Blues, fit-again Dragons winger Hallam Amos and Scarlets flanker James Davies.

And both Liam Williams and Owen Williams have rejoined their English clubs, which is the standard procedure for exiles not involved in the Test 23.

It’s also been announced that Ospreys duo Adam Beard and Owen Watkin will be the travelling reserves for Wales’ Championship clash with England at Twickenham on Saturday.

The five Blues players released are prop Dillon Lewis, lock Seb Davies, flanker Ellis Jenkins, scrum-half Tomos Williams and wing Alex Cuthbert.

They will be available to the Arms Park outfit for Saturday’s PRO14 fixture at home to South African side Cheetahs.

Openside James Davies and hooker Ryan Elias are going back to the Scarlets, who travel out to Treviso this weekend for Sunday’s game against Benetton.

There’s set to be a welcome return to action for Wales’ autumn campaign star Amos, who hasn’t been in action since Boxing Day due to an ankle injury.

He has been released to the Dragons, who entertain Conference-topping Glasgow tomorrow night, while prop Nicky Smith will bolster the Ospreys front row for their trip to Connacht the same evening.

Back three star Liam Williams wasn’t included in the Wales 23 for Twickenham having played just one match since suffering abdominal damage against Georgia in November.

It’s felt he needs game time and he will now be available to Saracens for their Aviva Premiership clash at home to Newcastle on Saturday.

And playmaker Owen Williams goes back to Gloucester who welcome Leicester to Kingsholm the same day.
