Oscar nominee in Welshman’s film

-

WELSH actor, writer and director Craig Roberts has landed Oscar-nominated actress, Sally Hawkins, to star in his brand-new film, Eternal Beauty.

Hawkins, who is nominated for Best Actress at this year’s 90th Academy Awards, for her role in Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, will star alongside Cannes Film Festival winner and Harry Potter-star David Thewlis, recently seen on TV in Fargo, and Alice Lowe, of Sightseers and Prevenge fame.

Eternal Beauty is due to start filming in Wales this spring and will follow the story of June who, when rejected by life, spirals into a chaotic, schizophrenic world.

Written by Maesycwmmer’s Roberts, Eternal Beauty is the first project from the 27-year-old’s production company, Cliff Edge Pictures. It follows his 2015 directorial debut, Just Jim – which he shot in his hometown and which starred Hollywood star Emile Hirsch.

Roberts, who has starred in Submarine, 22 Jump Street and Red Oaks on Amazon, said, “I want to shine a light into some pretty dark places but I want to do it with affection, humour and respect. I’ve been living with the characters in Eternal Beauty for a while now and it feels like the right time to share them. I’m in my oils.”

Paddington-star Hawkins and Roberts previously acted together as mother and son in the big screen adaptation of Submarine.
