Any memories of these people?

-

I WOULD appreciate being able through your kind offices of sending a message to those friends and relations who would have any memories of either Rose Davies or Colin Davies from 1940 onward who’s address or telephone I have lost.

They may like to know that Colin’s son Richard as Group Captain Rich Davies was made a CBE by the Queen in the New Year’s Honours list 2018 and at the Investiture on March 2, 2018, he was presented with the medal by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

This produced a coincidence with Richard’s Great Grandma, Alderman Mrs Rose Davies JP also receiving the Honour of the award of an OBE in the 1930s from King George V which was upgraded to a CBE by King George VI in the 1950s and presented to her on June 5 1952 by Queen Elizabeth II, an incredible coincidence some 66 years apart.

If it helps a little more, Colin is the son of the late Sydney Davies (of Plasdraw Road) and the late Betty Davies (of Club Street) both in Aberdare so Sydney is the son of Rose and Colin is the grandson.

Within Glamorgan Colin remembers family and friends in Bridgend, Cardiff, Rhiwbina, Merthyr Tydfil, (his uncle was the Hoover factory doctor for many years), and Rich was based in RAF St Athan for several years and made many friends.

In Aberdare Colin remembers Aberaman, Hirwaun, Llwydcoed, Plasdraw Road, Cwmbach, the old boys grammar and the old girls grammar schools and the fabulous park.

I am 77+ years old and disabled but still retain some good quality Welsh grey cells.

If anyone is prepared to contact me through the newspaper I will be most interested to continue a connection with them. Colin RE Davies Aberford Cottage Church Lane Piddletrenthide Dorset DT2 7QY
