Engineering apprentice lands dream job at GE Aviation
A SCIENCE buff from Caerphilly secured her dream job as an aircraft engineer after completing an apprenticeship with GE Aviation.
Jade Babbington completed a Level 3 apprenticeship in Aircraft Engineering at GE Aviation where she spent three years rotating around the shop floor, learning skills in building, repairing, inspecting and overhauling engines. She said: “The apprenticeship immediately offered me a chance to learn new skills daily and provided me with the practical hands on approach to learning that I enjoy.”
Louise Burnell, GE Aviation’s apprentice coordinator, said: “The growth that the business experiences through the apprenticeship programme is integral, ensuring that engineering skills remain sustainable across south Wales. It is through programmes like this that we can enhance employees’ technical capabilities and develop a robust skill set, boosting Wales’ reputation as a key place to trade.”
The Apprenticeship Programme in Wales is funded by the Welsh Government with support from the European Social Fund.
Minister for Welsh Language and Lifelong Learning, Eluned Morgan, said: “GE Aviation is just one example of a company benefitting from the chance to train the next generation in the specialist skills it needs within its organisation. Apprenticeships are a key investment for employers and play an important role in improving the skills and nurturing the talent of Wales as a whole.”
