THE devastated father of a two-yearold who died in the river Teifi has raised more than £1,000 for the people who tried in vain to save his daughter’s life.

Jet Moore has decided to raise funds for Wales Air Ambulance in order to thank them for their efforts on Monday after the family’s car rolled into the water with daughter Kiara Moore sitting in the back seat.

The car, a silver Mini, had been parked near a slipway in Cardigan that runs alongside the activity centre run by Mr Moore and his partner, Kim Rowlands.

A helicopter arrived at the scene – an area known as the Strand, near Cardigan Castle – on Monday afternoon and Kiara was airlifted to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.

It was later confirmed that she had died near the slipway and that there was nothing that could be done to save her.

Mr Moore paid tribute to all who helped in the frantic effort to rescue the two-year-old.

“A mega thank-you the officers who jumped in the river and the rest of the emergency services for all they did,” he said on Facebook.

“Unfortunately Kiara had an amazing but short life.”

Mr Moore’s efforts have now raised more than £1,000 and the Wales Air Ambulance has thanked him and paid tribute to his daughter.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We are so grateful to Jet for requesting donations to Wales Air Ambulance at this sad time.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and the entire community who are mourning the loss of Kiara.”

Police are now investigating the circumstances which led to Monday’s tragic events.

The car was initially reported as stolen, and a large-scale search ensued before the car was located in the river Teifi.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed on Tuesday that the silver Mini had not been stolen and that an examination of the vehicle will be carried out.

An inquest into Kiara’s death was opened on Wednesday and adjourned until a later date.
