ALL SET FOR A SEASONAL SHIFT
AFTER enjoying two four-day weeks on the trot this week’s lack of Bank Holidays feels harsh! Despite the missing sunshine and warm weather, Easter signals the start of the season of light nights, outdoor socialising and the tinkling of ice cubes in a cold drink.
This time of year always seems like the right moment to have a little refresh of your wardrobe.
While the temperature dictates how many layers I wear, I definitely start to steer clear of anything that screams winter, like shearling, fur (fake or otherwise) and any Nordicinspired knitwear.
Leather trousers and jackets can stay around for a while yet, but I pair them withTshirts and pumps to make them feel more spring.
Another tradition, one that started in my schooldays, was not wearing tights after Easter, not always easy in the British climate. But no one said fashion was an easy ride, if it was we wouldn’t wear high heels.
Speaking of footwear,
QI SPOTTED the TV presenter Jameela Jamil in a gorgeous off-the-shoulder red dress recently. It was smart and not beachy. I would like something similar.
Athat’s another thing that we tend to change at this time of year. It’s a little early to bust out your gladiator sandals and start wearing sliders on your commute, but unless the “Beast from the East returns” (again!) I think it’s safe to park your snow boots and wellies.
Neither of them work with the spring trends for pastels and fruit prints. Instead, dust off your trainers because the trend for sporty footwear is well and truly here to stay.
If the Balenciaga Triple S inspired “ugly” sneakers are a step too far for you, stick with simple white styles.
Stan Smith classics are the obvious choice, they go with everything from dresses to co-ords but if you want an alternative, then the environmentally friendly brand Veja is great. While they may cost a little bit more, they are ethically sourced using organic fabrics and are committed to promoting economic fairness in their supply chain which is more than enough reason for me to spend a little extra.
Now all we need is a little warm weather!
I HAVEN’T seen the picture but this dress from Miss Selfridge sounds like it would be just the ticket.
dress, was £28, now £19.60, Miss Selfridge
