Dragons need a win in race for play-offs

-

WREXHAM travel to Ebbsfleet United needing a win to keep their National League play-off hopes alive.

The Dragons are currently sixth, two points clear of eighthplaced Dover, who have a better goal difference, so Andy Davies’ men need a positive result after three games without a win.

Scott Quigley’s first-half penalty looked enough to give Wrexham the three points on Saturday against Eastleigh, who had Andrew Boyce sent off after 68 minutes, but a late Ryan Cresswell header ensured the north Walian outfit had to settle for a point.

“We have to move on,” said interim manager Davies.

“The league is competitive, there are no easy games in this league.

“We’ve just got to make sure we’re getting ourselves in front and seeing [the game] out.

“We will try and learn from the last couple of minutes [against Eastleigh] but the aim is to move on, get a reaction and get a positive result.”

Ebbsfleet have their own playoff ambitions and a run of eight league games without a defeat has propelled them to the cusp of the top seven, trailing AFC Fylde by seven points with two games in hand, so the hosts will be fighting victory.

And Davies knows Wrexham must pick up points to keep themselves in the hunt.

“It was always going to be tight, it has been all season, there are a lot of teams in there,” said a defiant Davies.

“We’re in there and it’s a really important game for us.

“The aim was promotion and that hasn’t changed. It’s where we want to be competing so we have to embrace that and rise to the challenge.

“Teams are putting pressure on each other and other teams are going to feel that as well.

“We’re still in there so for us it’s making sure we get a reaction.”

Chris Holroyd bagged a brace in the reverse fixture to help Wrexham to a 2-0 win back in November but the striker is a doubt tonight after picking up a foot injury on the weekend.

Kevin Roberts is unavailable due to suspension.
