Tandy has watching brief with Super side Waratahs

-

SACKED Ospreys coach Steve Tandy has been taken under the wing of the man who appointed him at the Liberty Stadium – Andrew Hore.

The Western Mail has learned Tandy has spent the last few weeks in a “shadowing role” at Hore’s Super Rugby team New South Wales Waratahs.

New Zealander Hore, who was Wales fitness chief under Steve Hansen and Mike Ruddock, later moved into administration and was made head honcho at the Ospreys before becoming chief executive of the Waratahs two years ago.

He had appointed his protege Tandy as head coach of the Ospreys in February 2012 following the departure of Sean Holley.

Within a matter of months, Tandy had delivered a Celtic League title with a stunning Shane Williams and Dan Biggar-inspired play-off final victory over European club champions Leinster in Dublin.

But that was the last silverware picked up by the Ospreys and Tandy was shown the doorthree months ago by powerbrokers at the Swansea-based region following their Champions Cup exit at Clermont Auvergne.

He is looking for work and has linked up with Hore in Sydney as a guest on a watch-and-learn basis.

There’s no suggestion at this stage Tandy will be offered a permanent role with 2014 Super Rugby champions Waratahs, who are second in the Australian Conference behind leaders Melbourne Rebels.
