Phonics fans ‘let down’ as shows went on in snow

-

ALMOST 500 Stereophonics fans say they feel “let down” by the band after a concert went ahead despite heavy snow.

A Facebook campaign group has been set up by fans unable to attend gigs in March due to extreme weather conditions.

“Let down by the Stereophonics” has now amassed almost 500 members.

It describes itself as “a group to support all those that were let down by the Stereophonics continuing with concerts when heavy snow and ice made it impossible or extremely dangerous to travel to their events and failing to offer alternative dates or refund”.

They want to be reimbursed after the were unable to attend gigs at the Genting Arena In Birmingham and Wembley in London that went ahead at the start of March when large parts of the UK were covered in snow.

Amanda Crooks, 45, from Wolverhampton, was one person affected.

She said: “I went to pick my friend up who lives in Telford as she has multiple sclerosis. It cost £130 in total for the two of us.

“We had been monitoring the weather all week and it came from nowhere on the day of the gig.

“We had the tickets booked for months.

“Other people had said they wouldn’t go but we were determined.

“We then had to give up because the snow was so bad and we were worried about ending up in a ditch! We did try though.

“I was so sure they were going to postpone it.”

A spokesman for the Welsh rockers said decisions to play the shows were not theirs and they had contractual obligations to play.
