Satisfied students shortlist Bangor

-

RAVE reviews by its own students have resulted in Bangor University being shortlisted for eight national awards.

The announcement of the shortlist for the prestigious Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCA) 2018 revealed that Bangor University’s nominations included the main University of the Year award.

Bangor University won the 2017 Whatuni title for Best Student Clubs and Societies in the UK, and this year’s nominations range from Accommodation to Student Support and Courses and Lecturers.

The Whatuni nominations are the latest accolades for Bangor University, which has seen the excellence of its teaching and the overall student experience endorsed in a number of external surveys.

Bangor University is the only university in Wales to have a TEF Gold rating for delivering consistently outstanding teaching. A student experience survey published by Times Higher Education last month also ranked Bangor in the top 10 in the UK for academic experience, reflecting the high standard of teaching and support.

Professor John G Hughes, the university’s vice-chancellor, welcomed the news of the Whatuni nominations, saying: “I’m delighted that our students have again this year shown their support and appreciation for the education and experience offered at Bangor. This reflects our focus on providing world-class teaching and research and an all-round student-centred university experience.”

Professor Carol Tully, pro vice-chancellor (students), said: “We’re extremely proud of our relationship with our students and work in partnership with them to ensure that their time at Bangor University is both enjoyable and rewarding. It’s wonderful to see the hard work done across the university and the students’ union acknowledged in this way once again.”

Eleni Cashell, editor of Whatuni, said: “Being nominated for an award is a huge achievement, because the only judges at the WUSCAs are the students themselves. It showcases to both prospective students and the higher education sector that your institution offers value for money, provides a good student experience and has a highly satisfied and supported student community.”

Whatuni’s Student Advisory Board has also shortlisted a Bangor University YouTube channel in the new submission-based Best Prospective Student Engagement category. This new category celebrates initiatives that engage prospective students in innovative and exciting ways, with Bangor shortlisted for its Get Ready for University YouTube channel. The channel features videos and vlogs delivered by students and staff, offering advice on all aspects of preparing for university; from the early stages of “Choosing the Right Uni for You” through to “Your First Week at Uni” and beyond.
