DEVASTATED friends have paid tribute to two ‘wonderful guys’ killed in a car crash at Denbigh. Emergency crews were called to the collision involving a blue Porsche Cayman on the A525 Denbigh bypass at 11pm on Saturday.

The two men killed in the tragedy have been named locally as Paul Corness and his friend, known as John Bon.

John lived in Denbigh and was a former student at Ysgol Glan Clwyd. It is understood he worked at Henllan Bakery in Denbigh.

Mr Corness is believed to have attended Denbigh High School during his youth but had been living in Sydney, Australia, in recent years.

Love Island winner Amber Davies, who comes from Denbigh, posted on Twitter: “What an awful moment for the north wales community. Two wonderful guys lost way too soon.”

Other tributes to the pair flooded in on social media.

Matty Roberts wrote: “Such devastating news, can’t believe it! Life’s so cruel. Thoughts go out to both families. RIP John Bon & Paul Corness”

Ryan Roberts said: “Absolutely devastated, so much shock! Rip John Bon and Paul Corness! Thoughts go out to the families”

Tracey Green wrote: “Terrible, terrible news this morning! I can’t say I knew them well but I’ve had a laugh with them when out and about in Denbigh on a night out. I’m feeling so upset for my friend Sarah Corness and her family and that Denbigh has lost two young lads with their lives ahead of them. RIP Paul and Jon Bon.”

Jacob Wellington Hall posted: “Bad things happen to good people. RIP Paul Corness definition of a true gent”

John was a regular visitor to Devine Café and Sports Bar on Lenten Pool in Denbigh.

Devine Club Class posted on Facebook: “All the staff at Devine are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of one of our local characters John Bon and his friend Paul Corness. Our sympathy goes out to their families and friends. RIP guys”

The A525 Denbigh bypass was closed most of Sunday with green screens placed on the road as collision investigators continued to establish the cause of the crash.

It finally re-opened at 7.30pm on Sunday – nearly 20 hours after the crash.

Residents who live close to the crash scene told how they heard a loud bang.

Mary Dent, 76, of Erw Salusbury, said: “I thought it was my husband shutting the door. It was a ‘woomp’ sound. At first I thought it was an earthquake.

“My husband asked if I had seen the flashing lights from the helicopter. He thought it was a car backfiring. There were a lot of police and ambulances. I feel very sorry for the families.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number W051275.”
