Disguested by rip-off hotel prices for events

-

I AM an Armed Forces veteran who was looking to bring friends of mine to Cardiff for Remembrance Parade this November – something we do every year remembering our fallen comrades and friends no longer with us.

We have been to Whitehall in London and didn’t have the same issue.

I was born in Cardiff and am very proud and patriotic to show off my city to friends.

I went to book two rooms for Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11 to attend parades in St Fagans and the Garden of Remembrance.

I went on to the Travelodge website to book the rooms and was appalled and disgusted to see the prices – £40 for the Sunday night and £199 for the Saturday night!

I know hotels have to make a profit, but charging five times the price is a rip-off.

I then realised another event must be happening, namely Wales playing Australia on the Saturday.

Why are hotels allowed to do this? This was made more evident during the Rugby World Cup when one hotel in particular was charging £2,000 for a night the day of a quarter-final game.

Because of this excessive charging, I will not be attending the Cardiff Remembrance parade due to rip-off hotels, which saddens me as the city is something to show off.
