Flynn is demanding a reaction from his Exiles

NEWPORT COUNTY boss Mike Flynn will be expecting a reaction from his players when they take to the field against already-promoted Accrington Stanley at Rodney Parade tonight (7.45pm).

Flynn was seething after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Barnet and slammed what he described as an “awful performance.”

Stanley, on the other hand, arrive in buoyant mood knowing a point is all that they require to seal the League Two title.

John Coleman’s side have tasted just one defeat since Boxing Day and are currently on a 15-game unbeaten run, while have dropped just seven points from 19 games in 2018 – which has propelled them from promotion candidates to champions elect.

They have also conceded just once in the past six matches and made light work of Wycombe on Saturday, showing their class with a 4-0 win at Adams Park that puts them on the brink of the title.

And County chief Flynn knows full well his side could be in for a difficult evening, particularly if there is any repeat of the Barnet debacle.

“The players have got to get up for it, it’s as simple as that,” said Flynn.

“If they’re not it’ll probably be eight or nine.

“There has to be a reaction. Everything needs to change and they’ve got to do that themselves.

“They owe the fans of this football club a performance because that [Saturday] was not good enough – nowhere near good enough.”

County’s only win in their previous six games was a 2-1 success against Swindon in their last home match but victory tonight would see them secure back-to-back wins for the first time since January.

Although the play-offs may have gone, three wins from their final four games would take them to 66 points – surpassing the 65 they achieved in 2014/15, the club’s best points total since they returned
