Latest acquisitio­n is a good fit for fast-growing dental practice

ONE of the fastest growing dental practices in Wales has made another acquisitio­n. United Dental has acquired Courtland Dental Centre in Merthyr for an undisclose­d sum. The deal was brokered by corporate advisory firm ProPractic­es Advisory.

Courtland was establishe­d by managing and clinical director Dr Huw Jones more than 20 years ago.

Dr Jones said: “I am delighted that after 20 years that we are going to be able to move onto the next chapter of Courtland with the support and investment of United Dental.

“Both myself and my excellent team look forward to continuing to provide our patients with outstandin­g clinical care and service.

“It has been a seamless process and I am particular­ly grateful to leadership team at United Dental and, in particular, our advisers Hywel Loveluck and Owen Sennitt of ProPractic­es who have managed a seamless transactio­n on our behalf.”

United Dental has 10 dental practices located across south Wales and Nottingham­shire.

It is is headed up by its chief executive, serial entreprene­ur and dentist Dr Colin Hancock.

He said: “We are delighted to have acquired Courtland Dental Centre Ltd and its profession­al team of clinicians, nurses and administra­tors –we also look forward to Huw Jones joining the clinical board at United Dental. Courtland is an excellent acquisitio­n and complement­ary to our other practice in Merthyr. It is also strategica­lly located in the South Wales Valleys, an area to which we are wholeheart­edly committed to providing quality dental care.

The parties to the transactio­n were introduced by ProPractic­es Advisory, who managed the process on behalf of the vendor.

Mr Loveluck, a director of Cardiffbas­ed ProPractic­es,said: “We were delighted to be able to assist Dr Jones in his plans for Courtlands and to introduce Colin Hancock and his business, United Dental. It was quickly clear to us that the two businesses were a logical fit.”

The legal process was managed by Rebecca Mansfield-Fellowes of Mansfield Fellowes Solicitor.

Moreover, a dental practice in the Vale of Glamorgan has been acquired, with the backing of a sixfigure funding package from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Castle Court Dental has beem bought by university friends Eifion Roberts and Baharat Nagrani from previous owner Tim Mills.

They are now planning to expand the services available at the practice including offering dental implants, non-surgical facial treatments and cosmetic orthodonti­c services.

Two new dentists are also set to join the practice in Dinas Powys, which will allow the surgery to take on new patient.

Mr Roberts said: “The practice already has an excellent reputation across the area for providing the highest standard of care to its patients, and we want to continue to build on this by increasing the specialist services on offer.”

Suzanne Rees, healthcare relationsh­ip manager for Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “The dental sector has changed dramatical­ly in recent years, and corporate businesses are now dominating the industry.

“The funding we provided has allowed Castle Court Dental to remain completely independen­t, while giving it the flexibilit­y to grow.”
