Magical car flies in to delight families

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at New Theatre, Cardiff

-

THE classic tale of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be landing on stage in Cardiff next month. It’s a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas.

Based on the beloved 1968 film of Ian Fleming’s children’s book and featuring an unforgettable score, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the perfect family musical that audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious”.

An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, sets about restoring an old racing car from a scrap heap with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float and take flight.

However, trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself.

The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa.

The adaption will be performed by Wales’ number one amateur company, Orbit Theatre.

The group has been entertaining Cardiff audiences for almost five decades and their award-winning standards of production have attracted some of the regions most promising performers.

The company has its own rehearsal and performance space, Orbit Warehouse, close to the city centre providing first class facilities for development and training.

Over the decades, many of the region’s best performers, directors and theatre arts teachers have had experience with Orbit Theatre helping to establish their own high standards of performance and production.

Music and lyrics are by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman, and Ray Roderick and Jeremy Sams have adapted the hit movie for the stage.

Chitty Citty Bang Bang will be at the New Theatre from Wednesday, May 30, to Sunday, June 3.

Ticket prices vary from £14 to £26. ■ To purchase tickets or for more information visit the venue’s website at newtheatre.co.uk or call the box office on 029 2087 8889.
