Positive pupils praised as city’s
THE largest high school in Swansea is celebrating an outstanding inspection report after Estyn judged it excellent in all five areas looked at.
They highlighted the success of Olchfa School in achieving consistently strong outcomes and high levels of wellbeing for pupils.
Inspectors from the education watchdog said pupils have extremely positive attitudes to their learning and behave courteously, respectfully and maturely.
Learners are confident, ambitious and highly motivated to develop their knowledge, the document added.
Inspectors described pupils’ communication skills as “notably strong’” and said they make strong progress in literacy, numeracy and Welsh language.
“Pupils thrive in Olchfa School’s caring, supportive and inclusive environment.
“Positive and trusting relationships between pupils and staff contribute significantly to high levels of wellbeing.”
Inspectors went on to note: “There are high levels of pupil participation in all aspects of school life” and that they take an active and enthusiastic role in decision-making.
The school has 1,700 pupils between the ages of 11 and 18.
Just over 6% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is well below the national average of 17% for secondary schools.
