It’s just Fab for Lukasz as stopper wins Swans award

-

LUKASZ Fabianski was last night crowned Swansea City’s Player of the Season for the first time as the Poland international’s key contribution to the club’s fight against relegation was recognised at the Liberty Stadium.

The 33-year-old picked up the Supporters’ Player of the Year prize, sponsored by Wales Online, at the Swansea City AFC’s Official Player of the Season Awards Dinner 2018 — organised in conjunction with the Executive Fund Raising Committee and Supporters’ Trust.

Since arriving on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2014, Fabianski has consistently excelled between the sticks and this season he again ranks among the top-flight’s best performers when it comes to saves made and aerial security.

He beat off competition from Jordan Ayew, Alfie Mawson, Federico Fernandez and Ki Sungyueng to win the prize, and was the overwhelming winner with 74 per cent of the vote as he succeeded Gylfi Sigurdsson in taking home the evening’s main gong.

Fabianski also triumphed in the Away Player of the Season category.

Ghanaian striker Ayew also scooped two awards, he was recognised by his peers as he was named Players’ Player of the Year and he also secured the top scorer prize for his 11 goals in all competitions so far.

Meanwhile George Byers was the winner of the young player of the year accolade, pipping Jordan Garrick and Connor Roberts to the award.

Swansea City icon Leon Britton was also recognised as he was received the Community Champion Award in honour of his work off the field in Swansea and the wider area.

The 35-year-old midfielder, who last week received the Swansea Sportsmen’s Club Award for his services to club and city, has yet to decide on his future beyond the end of the season, with his contract set to expire.
