Armed police surround house after dog bites delivery driver

-

ARMED officers with riot shields turned up at a shocked man’s home after his dog bit a delivery driver.

David Morgan, from Splott, Cardiff, wasn’t at home when the incident happened but his home ended up being surrounded by armed police.

The 32-year-old said he has been devastated by the incident – after he was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, but released 16 hours later.

“It all started on Thursday evening, about 12 or 1am I heard a knock at the door,” he said.

“It was the police. I thought it was about a family member.

“A delivery driver had put his hand though the letterbox.

“He posted a delivery card but said his fingers were bitten.

“Police took a photo of Buster (the dog) and said ‘that’s fine, we’ll be in touch’.

“Then Friday night I received a phone call to say police were surrounding the house. There were 15 officers, some of them armed with riot shields.

“They said, ‘you’re under arrest for your dog being out of control’. They made me get the dog and bring him out and put him in the van.

“They then arrested me and took me to the station for 16 hours. I was released with no further action.

“They gave him back on Wednesday. They said he passed a test, but made him wear a muzzle in public and told us to put a cage on the back of the front door and make sure he can’t get to the front door. No-one under 16 can be in charge of him.”

The ordeal was more of a shock, according to David, because of Buster the dog’s normally calm personality.

Now his partner has had to sign an Acceptable Behaviour Contract.

South Wales Police said: “The dog has returned home following an assessment which confirmed it is not of a dangerous breed.

“No further action is being taken.”
