ROOM IS EXACTLY HOW I WANT IT TO LOOK

-

Bronwen Picton Jones, 58, runs her own interior design company D:Zine.

She shares her home in Penarth with her son when he isn’t at university.

My first impressions...

Originally the living room had an awful cheap floor which I hated, but at least the walls were white and the curved window had a beautiful view of Cardiff Bay across the river Ely with the yacht club beyond.

I knew from day one what was needed to achieve the desired look.

It was just a case of waiting for the right time to make the changes I wanted – a place where my clients could come and be comfortable while I went through design schemes with them.

I enjoy working from home as it is so convenient plus I hate sitting in traffic.

Putting my stamp on it…

I completely revamped the whole room.

The walls are painted in a Zoffany muted tone on two walls, with the third wall painted in a Zoffany blue, and matched on the bespoke bookcase which I designed and had installed on the entire fourth wall.

I took away the polystyrene fake coving, a pet hate of mine, which immediately gave the room a feeling of space and height.

The closed bookcase hides all my design books and other paraphernalia.

I love the pendant light and wall light. They are a new range that I now supply.

My son recently spotted them on a video blog in an apartment in New York belonging to a famous DJ.

I installed a large wall mirror to give an added dimension to the room which reflects the view from the windows.

My style is classic with an eclectic twist – hence the yellow fur throw.

The painting is by my friend Neale Howells, a contemporary artist who is a prominent fixture in the Welsh art scene.

I love his work and have several pieces.

The table is a beautiful piece that I had restored to show off the walnut finish and this is particularly special to me as it once belonged to my father - award-winning architect Thomas Glyn Jones.

Although he did not design this particular table, he did design another round table now housed in the St Fagans National Museum of History.

The perfect space for…

Entertaining. My table will fit eight people but most of the time it stands in as my office desk. I can present schemes to my clients comfortably.

Then in the evening I dim the lights, pull down the putty coloured blinds and draw the voile curtains and I have peace.

If I could change one thing…

I would like be closer to the water’s edge. I love to be close to water. Maybe that’s the scorpio in me.

I love it because…

It’s exactly as I want the room to look.
