Charitable trust’s board placed on a firm foundation

THE official charitable trust of Cardiff City Football Club, which will play in the Premiershi­p next season, is recruiting new trustees to joins its board.

The Cardiff City Football Club Foundation is looking to appoint three trustees with skills and experience­s in the ares of communicat­ions, the third sector and fundrais- ing, to join its current board.

The deadline for applicatio­ns is May 18.

The goal of the Foundation is to inspire children, young people and families throughout south Wales to achieve their full potential and it focuses on health and wellbeing, education and employment and reduced offending and reoffendin­g.

It provides opportunit­ies for 17,000 people a year and has countless successes in transformi­ng the lives and prospects of those supported.

The foundation has an annual budget of £1.4m, with the majority of the income coming from charitable gifts and a variety of grants.

The five largest funding providers are Cardiff City FC, Premier League Charitable Fund, English Football League Trust, Cardiff & Vale College and ACT Training.

The new trustees with joined the existing board that includes:

■ Chair Leighton Andrews, who is professor at Cardiff Business School with expertise in public services, education and innovation. Mr Andrews is a former Welsh Government minister and a Cardiff City season ticket holder.

■ Vice-chair Steve Borley is also a director of Cardiff City Football Club and managing director of CNB Engineerin­g.

■ Rachel Lewis, group accountant at Admiral Group, who is the board’s treasurer.

■ Ken Choo, who is chief executive and executive director of both Cardiff City Football Club and HR Owen Plc (the luxury car dealership in London).

■ Melanie Hamer, senior director of Cardiff-based Wendy Hopkins Family Law Practice, who provides legal expertise to the board.

■ Shikila Mansfield, who works for the NHS in Wales and who provides expertise in workforce developmen­t and continuous improvemen­t.

■ Chris Hatcher, a partner at Watts Gregory in Cardiff, with expertise on finance, audit and risk.

■ Kayleigh Griffiths, head of desk transforma­tion infrastruc­ture delivery at Openreach, who helps oversee the financial operations of the foundation.

Gavin Hawkey, director of the Cardiff City Football Club Foundation, said: “I am so pleased with the calibre of the trustees we now have on the board and the guidance and pro bono help they give to the foundation on a daily basis.

“We all have one thing in common – we want to improve the lives of people in south Wales – especially children, young people and families living in disadvanta­ged communitie­s. With the strong board we now have in place, I am confident that we will achieve our aims.”

Prof Andrews said: “We have an extremely profession­al and diverse group of trustees working to support the foundation’s growth. Last year the Foundation created opportunit­ies for 17,000 people across south Wales.”
