Could these be the boys to face ‘Boks in summer tour opener?

WARREN Gatland names his Wales squad today ahead of their summer tour of Argentina – with a number of stars expected to be given time off after a gruelling season.

But with so many experienced faces likely to be rested, who can we expect to be starting when Wales take on South Africa in Washington in just under a month?

Rugby writer Ben James picked the Wales XV he would like to see trusted to face the Springboks on June 2. contender to fill in, but I’d be inclined to start with Dragons back Amos - who never got to push on from his star turn against the Springboks last autumn.

Alongside him, Josh Adams and rookie Owen Lane could be pressing for wing berths, but Steff Evans should be allowed to continue his growth into a Test player while North showed signs he was getting back to his best in the Six Nations. men in Argentina.

The Scarlets centre brings a calm nature to this evolving Wales backline - with his decision making and lack of errors key to Wales moving towards a more free-flowing style of play.

Alongside him will probably be Scarlets team-mate Scott Williams, but I’d be inclined to start with Ospreys centre Owen Watkin, simply to try out a new partnership.

Parkes and Williams have racked up plenty of minutes together, while Williams and Watkin started together against Italy and will be team-mates at the Ospreys next season.

But Parkes and Watkin is an untested midfield combination. Should Jonathan Davies and Scott Williams go down injured in Japan next year, it would be good to know that these two can play together.
