Store Hoggets (33) REACHING £78 were 40.5k from Davies, Pennant; £75 for 60k from Morris, Tyriet, who also sold 58k at £70; £62 for 41k from Phillips & Sons, Tredafydd Isaf; £60 for 35.5k from Davies, Blaeniago.

Ewe and Lamb Couples (12)

A SMALL entry of Suffolk Xs topped at £191 for a 2-year-old with twins from Thomas, Gilwen, who also sold a 3-year-old with twins at £160, 2-year-old with twins at £152; £147 for a 4-year-old with a single from Jones, Gorlan.

Cull Sheep (93)

THE best ewes topped at £94 from Coaker, Blaenffrwd Farm, who also sold ewes at £86 and £83; £90 for a ewe from Lewis, Morfa Uchaf; £83 for ewes from Sandbrook, Anneddwen; £80 for ewes from Russell, Vicars Mill Fish Farm; £75 for a ram from Funnell, Penbanc.

Calves (6)

A BB bull from Lloyd, Tegfan, peaked at £320, the same vendor also sold other BB bulls at £220 and £212; other leading prices at £318 for a BB bull from Reed, Rhosygadai­r; £240 for a BB heifer from Jenkins & Rees Cyf, Trefere Fawr, who also sold a BB bull at £205; £220 for a BB bull from Davies, Pantswllt; £215 for a BB bull from Jones, Plas Bangor; £202 for a BB bull from Shepherd, Garnwen.

The best of the black and white bull calves reached £100 for a Friesian from Jenkins & Rees Cyf, Trefere Fawr; £96 for a Friesian from George, Mount Farm, who also sold at £94.

MONMOUTHSH­IRE, APRIL 30 MONMOUTHSH­IRE LIVESTOCK AUCTIONEER­S New Season Lambs

A TREMENDOUS entry of 310 lambs which included the special Show & Sale kindly sponsored by Mr Frank Sutton, Raglan, John Deere agent.

The classes were judged by Mr M Jaffer & Co, with the championsh­ip being awarded being awarded to the first-prize pen of heavy lambs from Mr Steve Price, Common Farm. The Texel cross lambs weighed 40.8kg and sold to the judge at £135 (3.31p/kg). Steve Price also took second in the heavy class, with 39.8kg lambs selling at £127.50.

First prize in the lightweigh­t class was awarded to the entry from D Radnor, Penrhos, selling 35.5kg at £110 (310p/kg). Second went to MG & PC Williams, selling 35kg at £107 (306p/ kg). A grand run of commercial lambs, easily the biggest entry of the year so far, met a superb trade, with top selling of 333p/kg for 36kg at £120 from Anne Jenkins. MG & PC Williams & Son sold 35kg at £114 (326p/kg), D Radnor sold to 324p/kg (32.3kg – £104.50), and also A Jenkins with 39kg @ £126.50. Top price per head was £138 from GW Davies for 51kg. Trade remained strong on all weights, with buyers keen to secure sheep.

Hoggets

A GREAT late season entry of 674 hoggets sold to another strong trade, with a maximum 264p/kg from JO & P Jones & Son selling 38kg at £91. D Kedward sold to 262p/kg with 42kg at £110. JJ Greenow & Sons to 259p/kg with 48kg at £124.50 and 254p/kg with 50kg at £127. Jake Roberts peaked at 253p/kg with 45kg making £114, and J & M Herring 252p/kg with 42.5kg at £107. Maximum per head of £136 from J Griffiths for 55kg. Best of the mediumweig­hts from TP & AA Beavan & Sons at 256p/kg selling 39kg at £100.

Cull Sheep

201 culls to another very strong trade, with very few strong ewes forward. Top price of £110 for Suffolk ewes and £120 for rams from GW Davies. Crossbred ewes to £101 from P Maddocks; Speckles to £80.50 from IG & RN David; Mule ewes to £91 from J Pike.
