Arrest over Cardiff man’s fatal stabbing in Liverpool
AMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 20-year-old man from Cardiff died in Liverpool.
Fatah Warsame, from the Canton area of Cardiff, was fatally attacked in Hanover Street, Liverpool, at around 4am on Sunday.
Police confirmed he died from a single knife wound to his chest.
Merseyside Police said a 24-year-old man, from the Liverpool area, has been arrested on suspicion of his murder.
He was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug and was due to be questioned by detectives.
A 20-year-old man from Liverpool and a 21-year-old from London were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and both remain in custody.
Mr Warsame had been visiting the city for a night out with friends when the attack happened at about 3.30am.
Police revealed on Monday that a post-mortem examination had been carried out, confirming Mr Warsame died from one knife wound.
The victim lived in Cardiff and had an older brother. His Somali parents still live in the African nation.
His relatives have been described as “devastated” by his death.
Detective Chief Inspector John Middleton said: “I am continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area around Slater Street or Wood Street to please come forward, as they may have seen or heard something which could prove vital to our investigation.
“We are determined to find those responsible for this devastating crime and bring them to justice, and I would like to once again urge people with any information, no matter how small, to please get in touch.
“We will fully investigate any information given to us.”
Mr Warsame was a former pupil of Fitzalan High School, as well as briefly attending Cathays High School.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Fitzalan High School said: “Fatah will be fondly remembered and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
A spokesman for Cathays High School also extended their condolences to Mr Warsame’s family.
Mudassar Khan, a friend from Mr Warsame’s time at Cathays High, said: “He was a very lively and good-hearted individual, always full of energy and making people laugh.
“If for some reason I would arrive late to tutorial lessons, he would say to me, ‘I imitated your voice and the teacher marked you in because of it’.
“The last conversation I had with him was always about the tutorial lessons and we would both laugh at the fun times we had in them.”
