Cosgrove looking to stack up runs against old friends

-

FORMER Glamorgan batsman Mark Cosgrove is looking forward to taking on his old team as Leicestershire bid to end their long run without a Championship win, starting today at Grace Road (11am).

The Foxes haven’t recorded a longform victory since September 2016, and crashed to a 46-run defeat against Durham in their last match despite forcing their hosts to follow on.

“We should have beaten Durham, and deserved to win that game, but we just didn’t win it,” said Cosgrove.

“We had one bad session and that cost us. But we played really well and it gives us a lot of confidence to take into the game against Glamorgan.

“Glamorgan is still a club close to my heart, it’s a fantastic club and it’s always nice to catch up with some old mates. But it’s always nice to score runs, whoever we’re playing against.

“I’m feeling that I’m batting well and hopefully a big score is just around the corner. If we play like we did last week, we’ll be right on course for a win at home.

“We just need to win a game, and then we’ll win get another, and more.”

Glamorgan have named an unchanged 13-man squad after the six-wicket defeat by Kent last week, including batsman Shaun Marsh, who was this week named in the Australia one-day squad to face England next month.

The 34-year-old will not be available for Championship games against Warwickshire and Derbyshire.

He is also likely to be absent for the final One-Day Cup match against Surrey and any potential quarterfinal.

Marsh has not played a one-day international for Australia since February 2017.

He is recalled after the suspension of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for their part in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa and looks likely to open the innings.

The series lasts from June 13-24 and includes five one-day internationals, which features one match in Cardiff on June 16.

For Leicestershire, Ned Eckersley will miss out with the finger injury sustained at Durham CCC so Lewis Hill will keep wicket. Ateeq Javid, who recently scored a large unbeaten century for the Second XI, comes into the 12-man squad.

Leicestershire (from): Carberry (capt), Aaron, Ackermann, Cosgrove, Dexter, Griffiths, Hill (wk), Horton, Javid, Klein, Parkinson, Raine.

Glamorgan: (from) Hogan (capt), Selman, Murphy, Marsh, Donald, Carlson, Cooke (wk), Lloyd, Salter, Carey, de Lange, van der Gugten, Smith.
