If you’re something of an adventurous diner and have a head for heights, then you might want to book a table at a restaurant that’s opening in Cardiff later this year.

Dinner In The Sky has become a food phenomenon and after touring major cities like Sydney, Toronto, Rio, Monaco, Brussells and London, it will visit the Welsh capital for five days only this September.

During Cardiff In The Sky, diners will eat suspended 100ft off the ground outside City Hall. There will be eight “flights” a day serving different meals such as breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails at dusk.

Some of the city’s finest chefs and venues will be involved and will tailor-make menus for the experience, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks. Every menu will have a vegetarian option which needs to be ordered in advance.

Cardiff In The Sky is open to the public from Wednesday, September 12 to Sunday, September 16 and tickets will be priced between £50 and £150.

Each flight will see 22 people, along with a chef, elevated into the skies for anything between 30 minutes to 90 minutes (depending on what they book). They will sit around two long tables facing each other and will be strapped into their seats.

A canopy will protect against the elements and the flights will only be cancelled during severe weather conditions.

A marquee on the ground with a bar will provide a waiting area and washroom facilities as there is no toilet on the platform.

Dale Agar of Events In The Sky, which runs Dinner In The Sky, said: “We’re looking forward to Cardiff In The Sky, which will have a stellar lineup of the city’s best chefs and restaurants who will transfer their menu’s to our unique Sky Table.

“Guests will enjoy a breathtaking dining experience with spectacular views of this beautiful city.”

The event is being brought to Cardiff by new creative agency OOMFF Create, which has been launched by co-directors Gareth Lloyd Roberts and Jamie Rees.

Gareth says: “I’ve been aware of Dinner In The Sky for some time and have always wanted to bring it to Cardiff, a city that’s boasts some of the best independent food and drink establishments in the UK.”

Jamie, who confesses to being afraid of heights, adds: “The table itself, which will be lifted by a crane into the sky, will be covered and whilst I’m petrified about going up there myself, I’m just glad there’ll be a marquee with a bar on the ground to get me some Dutch courage before I head up.”

The minimum age for diners is 12 and under-18s need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

While it is safe for pregnant women, it’s not recommended for those over six months’ pregnant as three seatbelts are used to fasten people in.

While bags must be left in the secure cloakroom, diners are encouraged to take their camera or phones with them to capture the experience.
