A galactic night out for Star Wars enthusiasts

Star Wars: A New Hope - Live with Orchestra, Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff

-

SCI-FI fans will be able to feel the force when the landmark original Star Wars film gets a big screen showing in Cardiff, accompanied – for the first time ever in the UK – by a full orchestra.

Episode IV: A New Hope will get an airing at the city’s Motorpoint Arena this Christmas, during which the 1977 classic movie will have its score by Oscar-winning composer John Williams performed live.

Williams, who has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, seven Baftas and 22 Grammy Awards, also had his work on the film chosen by the American Film Institute as being the greatest US cinema score of all time.

The 85-year-old musical legend is well known for working on all eight films in the space saga, from the first instalment to sequels The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, through all three prequel movies and right up to last year’s The Last Jedi, which became the UK and Ireland’s biggest film of 2017.

“We’re delighted that Star Wars fans will have the opportunity to experience the music of the movie performed live to picture in the UK for the first time,” says Grant Watmuff, Licensing & Strategic Partnerships Manager at Disney Music Group.

“From the opening fanfare to the final note, John Williams’ score for Star Wars:

22.

A New Hope is a genre-defining masterclass of cinematic composition.”

One thing’s for sure, those who grew up with the film franchise are probably already starting to regress at the very thought of those first few bars being played.

Tickets, prices for which start at £32.50, are on sale now and there’s no need to master any Jedi mind tricks to get hold of them – all you have to do is pick up the phone.

Star Wars: A New Hope – Live with Orchestra is at Motorpoint in Cardiff on Friday, December 7. For tickets, call the box office on 02920 22 44 88
