Axe wielded in early-morning street fight
IT is believed an axe was used in a stabbing which resulted in four people being taken to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident took place at the near the shops on Countisbury Avenue near the junction of Burnham Avenue, in Llanrumney, Cardiff, around 1am.
The police responded to a report of men fighting in the street just before 1am on Sunday, with four men taken to the University Hospital of Wales.
One man is recovering from surgery in hospital while the other three have been discharged. A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “It is believed weapons, possibly a small axe, were used during the disturbance however enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances.”
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident. Two men, aged 18 and 19, arrested on suspicion of affray have been released on conditional bail, while a 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault has been released under investigation.
A resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I was in bed last night and all I could hear was lots of shouting. One voice said ‘don’t do it, don’t be silly’. It sounds like there was five or six of them. Then the police came, it was before 2am. I was in bed and could see all the lights flashing.”
Another resident said on Sunday: “I heard a lot of screaming, it was any time between 10 and 12 last night. I don’t know how many people there were but there was a lot of girls screaming in particular.”
