HOPKINS: I DON’T CARE IF I’M A GRANDFATHER
STAR ESTRANGED FROM DAUGHTER:
A MAN found guilty of murdering his wife in her own bed has been sentenced to life in prison.
BT worker Paul Martin Jordan had denied murdering his wife Elizabeth at Trem y Garnedd in Maesgeirchen, Bangor, on July 31 last year.
The 54-year-old admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility but was convicted by a jury.
During the six-day trial, the jury heard the couple, who were separated, had enjoyed a day out at Chester Races together just two days before Mrs Jordan was murdered.
At about 8.30am, Jordan had left his rented flat in Ffordd Siabod, Felinheli, to “finally rid himself of the problem he perceived he had with his wife”.
He believed Mrs Jordan was having an affair but the court heard police found no evidence that was true.
At the house he selected a kitchen knife and went upstairs. After checking his daughter’s bedroom, and greeting her boyfriend, he went into his wife’s room and stabbed her.
A pathologist said Mrs Jordan died of a single stab wound to the upper chest, which penetrated the left lung and heart.
Judge Rhys Rowlands, the Honorary Recorder of Caernarfon, said Jordan had developed a problem with alcohol dependency but had sought professional help.
He sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years.
