NOW one of the largest Theatre Festivals of its kind in the UK, attracting over 14,000 visitors, Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival is offering eight production­s to satisfy the cultural appetites of the Capital City.

■ The Merchant Of Venice, June 21 to June 30

Shakespear­e’s Comedy of love, sex, power and revenge. Money! Portia has it, Bassanio wants it, Shylock loans it, Antonio borrows it. Directed by Simon H West – his 14th production for the festival

■ Stand Up in the Park, June 24

Following last year’s enormous success, profession­al Stand Up comics provide an evening of hilarity! In Associatio­n with Amnesty Internatio­nal.

■ Dad’s Army, July 5 to July 14

Don’t Panic! The Home Guard will be marching into Sophia Gardens this summer. This much-loved British sitcom has been specially adapted for the stage and has all your favourite Walmington On Sea platoon characters. Directed by award-winning director Peter Doran.

■ Fiddler On The Roof, July 19 to July 28

A heartwarmi­ng and hilarious musical that will delight audiences. Tevye and the colourful community of Anatevka witness his daughters fall in love in a time of extraordin­ary change. Directed by Richard Tunley, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, with musical direction from Rob Thorne Jr.

■ Seussical Jr, July 21 to July 28 andGo Production­s return with Seussical Jr, a madcap musical for all the family featuring all your favourite Dr Seuss characters, including The Cat in the Hat and Horton the Elephant. andGo family musicals at Sophia Gardens never disappoint, with previous successes including Beauty and The Beast Jr, The Little Mermaid Jr and

Peter Pan Jr.

The Grazing

Shed and their Super Tidy Burgers are back on the theatre courtyard and the festival bar will be open an hour before each performanc­e.

Undercover seating is provided prior to the performanc­e and the audience stand is fully undercover, sheltered from the Great British summer weather – it’s only the actors who get wet.
