Seeking out LGBT+ stars in Wales for next Pinc List

- RUTH MOSALSKI Reporter ruth.mosalski@walesonline.co.uk

THE Pinc List is back – and we want your help to make it better than ever. The Pinc List recognises people who have contributed to LGBT+ life in Wales in recent years.

We want to know the stories of people who have made a difference in your community, who may have helped you personally or been there at the front of campaigns, and who you think have changed lives.

The list is published in August, ahead of Pride Cymru taking over the capital over the August bank holiday weekend.

A panel, made up of members of Pride Cymru, people from the LGBT+ community and Media Wales, will decide the final list – but we want your nominations.

To nominate someone, we need their name and a description of why you think they should be included in the list.

We also need contact details for you, and them, as well as confirmation the person nominated is aware you have put them forward.

The person must be born and brought up in Wales or have lived here for a substantial amount of time, and we want people who have had a significant impact on the lives of LGBT+ people.

This year, we are also seeking nominations for “rising stars”. They may be people who have moved to Wales more recently, but who are making waves in the LGBT+ scene here in Wales in the last 12 months.

Pride Cymru vice-chairman Gian Molinu said: “This is the fourth annual Pinc List, which looks at recognising and celebrating the significant contributions made by members of the LGBT+ community in Wales. It is an opportunity to recognise all those people who have showed strength of character in standing up for diversity and for tolerance, either within our communities or at a national level.

“Last month marked the anniversary of Section 28, legislation that banned schools and local authorities from promoting ‘homosexuality’.

“If you didn’t talk about it, then it didn’t exist. Thirty years on from Section 28, we are celebrating what it means to be part of the LGBT+ community.

“We are celebrating those individuals who have helped to challenge those outdated homophobic and hateful attitudes and we are recognising those people who are showing us every day that it is more than okay to be who you are.

“Opening up nominations to the public is a fantastic way for our local communities to celebrate those unsung LGBT+ stars who should be recognised for what they give back to their own communities every day.

“This is our chance to shout out loud and celebrate all that is good about our LGBT+ community.”

■ Nominations can be sent to pinclist@pridecymru.com and close on June 25.
