Hilarious dissection of a crazy little thing called love

WHAT is love? In Carys Eleri’s madcap one-woman show it’s broken down into a collection of hormones, the effects of everything from oxytocin to serotonin explained via personal anecdotes.

When Carys first springs onto stage, inexplicably wearing a sparkling bum bag, you wonder whether she can get a whole show out of this – but oh, yes, she can. The pace and hilarity pick up as she takes you on a whistle-stop tour of her love history, starting with first love, and ending with her current single state – a topic which enables her to discuss scientific findings about loneliness, and end on a touching and inspiring message about the value of friendship.

From the deadpan delivery of her mum’s helpful pronouncements (“put a bra on” being her first piece of post-breakup advice) to the levity given to serious topics such as controlling relationships, this is a show to make you laugh while also reminding you how much the way we treat each other matters.

Another highlight is her tale of post-break-up partying, when she would wake up in bed the next day having presumably been brought home by a “magic taxi” (cue visuals and a song about a taxi driven by a unicorn.). The best bit, though, is her song about imagined bonds formed on Tinder.

If Flight of the Conchords was reimagined as a one-woman show, maybe these are the songs they would come up with.
