The mountains’ best-kept secret
IT’S the secret Snowdonia infinity pool that mountain explorers don’t want you to know about.
But photographer Dave Newbould went looking for it with his son Jonny after a photograph was shared on social media.
Many people have gone in search of the hidden gem, which is nestled above the Llanberis Pass, but climbing enthusiasts have remained tight-lipped about its whereabouts.
However, Dave, a professional mountain photographer, captured the beauty spot in all its glory and posted his images for others to appreciate.
It has been dubbed an infinity pool because its position gives the impression that it merges into the surrounding landscape.
The father-of-three from Llanbedr said: “It all came about when someone put a picture of the pool on the Love Snowdonia Facebook page about a week ago. Some people suggested it had been photoshopped but I recognised the cliffs in the background and tried to find it on Google Earth.
“My son Jonny and I went in search of it and when we found it, I felt a mixture of ‘wow, people really must go there’, but then I can appreciate why some would want it to remain a secret place. That’s why I’m not going to say exactly where it is.”
Dave, who has a long history in the mountaineering community and has photographed Welsh landscapes for 25 years, said the site exists because of a stone wall built around a hydroelectric scheme on a small mountain stream.
“The view from there is beautiful and on a hot day it is a lovely spot to sit and admire the view,” he said.
