Cow-crash woman wins £8,000 in compensation for injuries

-

A WOMAN has won an £8,000 payout after she was injured in a car crash involving an escaped cow.

Margaret Evans, 60, was a passenger in a friend’s car when it hit a cow running across a road.

The accident left retired farmer Mrs Evans with serious injuries to her knees, shoulders, head and neck.

Her friend’s Renault Megane was written off in the collision, but the cow miraculously walked away unharmed.

Mrs Evans later tracked down the farmer who owned the cow in Ludlow, Shropshire, and successfully sued him for £8,000 after he admitted it had escaped via a broken fence.

Mrs Evans, from Machynlleth, said: “The impact was so heavy that it was surprising the cow survived.

“Even though I was in a lot of pain, I didn’t want to go to hospital, so I ended up going home after being treated at the roadside for a couple of hours. We were very lucky that we weren’t killed.”

Her solicitor Neil Sanders said: “This was a serious incident and we can see that by the injuries sustained by Mrs Evans.

“Mrs Evans managed to find out who owned the cow that the car struck, and we contacted their representatives.

“It was revealed that the animal had escaped because a fence was damaged. This made it an indefensible position and the farmer admitted liability.”
