Will our Royals never learn from past mistakes?

-

IN business, the toughest lessons learned by major companies are often taught by the mistakes they make.

But it appears when it comes to ‘The Firm’, the age-old adage once bitten, twice shy just does not seem to apply.

Yet again the Royal family, which usually goes to extreme lengths to control how it is viewed in public, has been blindsided by Meghan Markle’s father.

Just fours weeks after pulling out of his daughter’s big day at the last minute, Thomas Markle Snr has broken his silence to give an extraordinary TV interview.

His appearance on Good Morning Britain, beamed live from the States, caught Buckingham Palace completely off guard.

The interview, in which some of Meghan and Prince Harry’s most intimate secrets were revealed, has left courtiers spinning.

Markle revealed how, in a phonecall, he told Harry of his dislike of the US President with the Prince replying he should “give Donald Trump a chance”.

He then added that the Prince “was open to the experiment” of Brexit.

No wonder the Palace was left shuddering. The political views of the royals are normally as closely guarded as the Crown Jewels.

It begs the question that, given the wedding debacle, why Meghan and Harry, not to mention the royal family, have never reached out to her formerly semi-reclusive dad to help him deal with intensive, if understandable, interest.

As an heir to the throne, Harry – the recently created Duke of Sussex– expressing political opinions in private is fraught with difficulties. One can only now imagine how strained the relationship might now be between Thomas and his daughter Meghan.

The monarchy has clearly learned nothing from mistakes before the wedding when he was left unsupported.

They’ve royally messed up.
