Penguin Wealth team names Age Connects as its chosen charity
PENGUIN Wealth, the locallybased financial planners, has confirmed that its nominated charity will be Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale for the next two years.
Craig Palfrey, from Penguin Wealth, explained the reasons behind this decision.
He said: “In our line of work we often come into contact with older clients looking for financial advice, so we understand many of the struggles and concerns they face.
“A few years ago we came across local charity Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale and we soon realised the lifeline they offer to many older people.
“After several years of supporting their work on an ad hoc basis, the Penguin Wealth team agreed that we wanted to get more involved in their vital work in our community.
“We wanted to help to fulfil the charity’s vision, to live in a society where older people are respected and valued.”
Many organisations agree that having a nominated charity has a positive impact, promoting team spirit, boosting staff morale and bringing employees together in an organised, coordinated way.
Sadly, often smaller charities can be overlooked when organisations are deciding where to place their support in favour of larger national charities. This is why a small injection of support, such as this from Penguin Wealth, can make such a massive difference to a local community.
Gavin Baos, from Penguin Wealth, echoes this sentiment. He said: “The whole team at Penguin Wealth feels strongly that giving something back to the community in which you live and work can bring an enormous sense of pride, and we feel that supporting older residents, who have spent their entire lives living in and contributing to their communities, is especially rewarding.
“Every penny Penguin Wealth helps the charity to raise will go towards helping the many thousands of older people who desperately need help in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.”
Older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation or loneliness, owing to loss of friends and family, mobility or income. It can be a terrible and frightening experience to see nobody for days on end.
CEO at Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, Jeff Hawkins, explained why corporate support is so vital.
“Every one of us is getting older and, regardless of circumstance, it is something that we will all have to contend with.
“Hopefully, we will have the benefit of friends and family to help us along life’s journey. Many older people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan do not have this security and are all alone facing the uncertainty that old age can bring.
“They may be recovering from illness or bereavement, struggling to cope financially or cope in any one of a dozen of ways.
“At Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale they find practical help and advice and people who care about the challenges they face.”
