West Ham and Wolves favourites to sign Mawson

-

WEST Ham and Wolves are the favourites to sign Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of much interest away from the Liberty and is expected to leave the club this summer.

West Ham made an offer for the centre-back earlier this month, but the offer for Mawson and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was rebuffed at the time.

Fabianski has since, of course, penned a deal with the club and the 33-year-old goalkeeper will join the Hammers after his World Cup campaign with Poland. As for Mawson, the Hammers remain the favourites to sign one of Swansea’s top performers, while newly-promoted Wolves are second favourites.

The 24-year-old joined Swansea from Barnsley in the summer of 2016 and still has two years left on his current deal at the Liberty.

He scored three goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for the Swans last term, including a memorable winner against Liverpool in January.

At the time of publication, Sky Bet was listing the following odds: West Ham (5/4), Wolves (2/1), Everton (12/1), Tottenham (12/1), Arsenal (16/1), Southampton (18/1), Fulham (20/1), Liverpool (20/1). To stay at Swansea (11/2).

A host of first-team players, including club stalwarts Fabianski and Angel Rangel, have already left the Liberty following the club’s relegation.

Graham Potter will be assessing his squad ahead of the Championship season, and spoke about players departing at his first press conference earlier this month.

He said then: “We need to assess. Any player who leaves has to go on right terms for the club but we don’t want players who don’t want to be here.

“We have to make balanced decisions. That process has started already, but we want players proud to represent Swansea.”
