Protests planned for the visit of President Trump

-

PROTESTS are planned in Wales a day before Donald Trump makes his first official visit to the UK as US President.

Stand Up To Racism Wales is organising protests in Swansea and Cardiff ahead of President Trump’s arrival on British soil.

He will be visiting the UK on Friday, July 13, a day after attending a Nato summit in Brussels.

It is expected he will be joined by First Lady Melania Trump on a threeday ‘working visit’, where he will meet the Queen on his arrival in London, US ambassador to the UK, Robert Wood Johnson and Prime Minister Theresa May.

But mass protests are already planned across the country by his opponents.

In Swansea, eight groups have come together to stage a protest in Castle Square called ‘Swansea Says No To Trump’ the day before his visit on July 12.

It is being hosted by Stand Up To Racism Wales, The Swansea Trump Unwelcoming Committee, Swansea Unison, Momentum Swansea, Swansea’s People Assembly, Swansea Coalition Against War, Swansea City and County Unison and Swansea West Labour Party.

They are inviting people to attend the event, taking place between 6pm and 7pm to “let people know you oppose him and make your voice heard.”

In Cardiff, on the same day, ‘Wales Together Against Trump’ will protest against Trump’s visit, marching from outside Cardiff Central Library in The Hayes from 5.30pm until 8pm.

It will be hosted by Stand Up To Racism Wales, A Room of One’s Own, Wales Together Against Trump, Cardiff People’s Assembly, Cardiff Stop The War Coalition and Cardiff Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Coach travel is also being put on from Swansea and Cardiff to London on the day of his actual visit on the Friday, where people will be travelling from across the country to be part of a mass protest.
