‘iPhones could stop working in heat’

-

AS hot temperatures continue across the UK, it may come as a surprise to some that your iPhone could stop working in the heat.

The hot weather looks set to continue – with the heatwave predicted to stay for at least another two weeks.

Temperatures have rocketed to well over 30 degrees C, with Porthmadog becoming the hottest place in the UK when it hit a high of 33 degrees C last Thursday.

With the hot weather not forecast to cool down anytime soon, your Apple devices could be prone to over-heating.

According to the support section on the Apple website, devices such as iPhones, iPads and iPods get warmer in various situations.

These include when you first set up a device, when you restore a device, during software updates or when you are simply charging a device.

This is completely normal, but in higher ambient-temperature conditions some things could cause your device to alter its behaviour and performance.

According to advice issued by Apple this can happen when you leave the device in a car on a hot day, when a device is left in direct sunlight for a long period of time or by using the device for certain things in hot conditions.

This could include using a phone for navigation or for playing games.

The Apple website explains for anyone using an Phone, iPad, or iPod touch: “Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0?C and 35?C.

“Low or high temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature.

“Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off.

“Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures.

“Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.

“Store the device where the temperature is between -20?C and 45?C.

“Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.”

When a device exceeds a certain temperature threshold, a temperature warning is likely to appear.

If this happens users are generally still able to make emergency calls.

But to restore your device as fast as possible you should turn it off, place it in a cooler place and allow it to cool down.

This should enable your phone to get back to normal.
