James is ready for his return to rugby

-

WALES rugby star Tom James has announced on social media that he will be returning to pre-season training after taking an extended break out of the game to battle depression.

The 31-year-old Cardiff Blues winger announced on Twitter that he would be “getting back on the horse” with a view to returning to rugby full-time, after making the move to step away from the game in January.

In the tweet which has prompted a swell of kind messages, he said: “Looking forward to getting back on the horse tomorrow @ cardiff_blues ! Thanks to everyone for their support over the past sixmonths.

In his two spells at the Cardiff Arms Park, he has made 162 appearances for the Blues, scoring 60 tries.

He last featured for the region in their New Year’s Eve clash with the Scarlets last season.

James, who has seven international caps, last played for Wales in a Six Nations clash with Scotland in 2016.

He received widespread support from the rugby community after revealing his on-going battle with the illness – sending a message of thanks back in February on social media.

James said: “I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support from my team-mates, the coaches, medical team and staff at Cardiff Blues, and have been overwhelmed by the messages and kind words from the rugby public.”

He added: “I also want to say a special thanks to my partner Brooke and the rest of my family and friends for being there for me. Thanks again.”
