-

AN inquest has opened into the death of a music teacher killed on the M4 near Swansea.

Lewis John Hunter Gilmour, aged 37, was pronounced dead at the scene after a two-vehicle collision on the motorway’s westbound carriageway near junction 47 at Penllergaer at around 1.20am on Monday, July 2.

Mr Gilmour, who was said to have been missing at the time from the Glasgow area, was a mature student.

The inquest heard he was driving his Mazda 3 at speed and with the lights off before colliding head-on with a Vauxhall Astra.

There was said to be a significant field of debris from both vehicles following the collision.

Mr Gilmour’s family called him “inspirational” and “unforgettable” in a statement.

It read: “We, Lewis’s family and all of his friends have been shocked and devastated by his tragic and untimely death.

“Many have already spoken of a lovely guy whose kindness, generosity of spirit, unfailing sensitivity to the needs of others, combined with a wicked sense of humour, served to make him unforgettable.

“As a musician, Lewis’s skills were creative, diverse and inspirational. As a teacher, his patience and encouraging ways helped his students reach their full potential.

“In the words of one of his friends: ‘The world needs more people like you, Lewis’.

“He will be greatly missed.” Police are continuing to investigate the death of Mr Gilmour.

The inquest into his death was opened by assistant coroner Aled Wyn Gruffydd.

It has been adjourned until December 13.
