Roll up... roll up...
The circus is in town – and you could be a part of the fun this weekend. We take a look at what audiences can expect from Cirque Berserk!
ONE of the UK’s biggest and boldest theatre/ circus spectaculars is thrilling audiences in Cardiff.
Cirque Berserk! combines beautiful contemporary circus artistry with hair-raising, deathdefying stunts.
It sees the return of its most famous – and most dangerous – act, the legendary Globe of Death, in which four motorcyclists defy gravity and risk life and limb traversing the inside of a spherical steel cage at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
Cirque Berserk! features 30 jugglers, acrobats, aerialists, dancers, drummers and daredevil stuntmen from all corners of the globe including the legendary award winning Moustache Brothers from Brazil, whose hilarious and fast paced acrobatic clowning will take your breath away.
Germaine Delbosq, a ninth generation circus foot juggler and Argentinian Bolus artist, is among the stars of the circus along with her husband Gabby and daughter Carina.
So are the Globe of Death, knife throwing and foot juggling fire acts frightening to perform?
“No, it’s our passion, we train and train and give 200% to everything we do,” she says.
“We have to be completely focused on what we are doing when we are on stage, there is no room for error, especially when the motorbikes hit speeds of 60mph and a husband is throwing knives at his wife!
“All 35 performers in the show have either been born into circus or trained at specialist academies all over the world. Our international cast includes artistes for Brazil, Cuba, France, Portugal, Argentina, Hungry, Mongolia and of course the UK.”
So what can people expect when they see the show?
“It’s fast paced, thrilling and fun. Real edge-of-your-seat stuff, which has been created by our founder Martin “Zippos” Burton and some of the best West End directors, lighting, sound and costume designers.
“The Globe of Death is really exciting to see on stage too – it’s a first for the UK, something no other show has been able to stage in a theatre, and has to be altered at every single venue as each has a different stage rake.
“We are so proud to be sharing our skills and passion with people in Wales; it’s a real honour.”
